About Scott Wendt Tom Wierciak
Tom and Scott, two self taught (and learning everyday!) photographers live on the tip of Michigan's Keweenaw peninsula, a 45 mile spit of ancient rock surrounded by the majesty of Lake Superior.
Scoured clean by the last ice age, the Keweenaw is a geologic and nature lover's paradise, exposing 1.1 billion year old layers of basalt, conglomerate, and sandstones, covered by a thin layer of stony soil that supports a diverse boreal flora and fauna. Lake Superior provides the backdrop to this enchanted corner of the world, her moods dictating the rhythm of the peninsula, calm and serene with gentle lake breezes, the next minute hurricane force gales that shake the bedrock shore with their power...Her winter snows pile high (over 300 inches annually) blanketing the countryside for over half the year, her sunsets paint evening masterpieces, their dazzling colors reflected on her deep waters or frozen icy floes...and by night, the Northern Lights dance over her expanses, shimmering reds and greens, across the brightness of the Milky Way.
Native copper and silver were mined in the 1800-1960's era, dotting the mountainsides with abandoned mine sites and ghost towns, their derelict shaft houses and forgotten homesteads silently slipping back into the deep forests, their stories forgotten, an entire civilization lost to history.
The Keweenaw is a remote and rugged wilderness, with miles of unexplored moss covered forests and rocky shoreline, backwoods trails where a moose or wolf may cross your path, where loons hauntingly call on uninhabited lakes and pitcher plants and ice age relic flowers cover hidden glens...Thank you for viewing this unique land through our lenses..Come Adventure with Us!!
